David Svendsen retired from Microsoft in February 2000 to pursue other business interests after sixteen years with the company. He was appointed Chairman of Microsoft Ltd in July 1998 following 11 years as Managing Director. During this time, he successfully led and developed the business in the UK and Ireland from a small start-up company (revenue US$15 million, 40 employees) to be a leader in its sector (US1 billion, 900 employees). David Svendsen retired from Microsoft in February 2000 to pursue other business interests after sixteen years with the company. He was appointed Chairman of Microsoft Ltd in July 1998 following 11 years as Managing Director. During this time, he successfully led and developed the business in the UK and Ireland from a small start-up company (revenue US$15 million, 40 employees) to be a leader in its sector (US1 billion, 900 employees). When he left Microsoft Ltd it was in the top five leading software companies in the world. In 1997 he was made Vice President of Microsoft EMEA. In 1984, David helped start Microsoft in Australia and established what is now a successful operation.

David Svendsen has had over 30 years of business management experience in a wide range of companies in both UK, Europe and Australia. Since leaving Microsoft, David has taken on a number of business interests with technology, film and “new economy” enterprises.

Born in Australia, he studied at Macquarie University where he obtained an MBA majoring in Business Strategy and Marketing. Before that he studied at University of Queensland where he majored in Economics, Politics and Accountancy.
